Friday’s Fave Five and Happy Valentine’s Day!

friday fave five 12It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week
with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you! I hope you have a wonderful day sharing love with others. This has been a busy week, but here are some of the bright spots in it:

1. Phone battery restored. My phone’s battery seemed to be slowly dying. I needed to charge it up increasingly often until it got to the point of having to keep it plugged in any time I wasn’t using it. I asked my son if he had any advice short of getting a new phone. He said making sure my operating system and apps were all updated might help a little. So I did that. Then one night when I noticed the phone was nearly dead, I let it run all the way out before I recharged it. The battery has been doing great since then, going all day without a recharge.

2. Laptop doing well. I get along better with my desktop than my laptop, but I do need my laptop sometimes. But it had been having a number of problems. Two of my sons worked on it around Christmas, putting all the files on a CD and then taking the computer back to factory reset. This is the first week I have used it extensively since then, and it did great.

3. Rain stopped. I mentioned last week we had rain and flooding. We had even more rain this week. It finally stopped yesterday, and we’re supposed to have clear skies the next few days. We’re even supposed to see the sun later today! I am also thankful the temperatures were moderate during all the rain (mostly 40s during the day). If they had been below freezing, we would have been in even more of a mess with all the precipitation.

4. Podcasts with Valerie Elliot Shephard. If you’ve read here long, you know I love the ministry of Elisabeth Elliot and considered her a mentor from afar. This week Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth has been interviewing Valerie, Elisabeth’s daughter, on the Revive Our Hearts radio program every day this week. The Christian radio station I listen to doesn’t carry that program, but the ministry made the interviews available via podcast. I enjoyed listening to them while making Valentine cards. I don’t listen to podcasts much—I usually listen to music or audiobooks. But now that I know ROH has them, I might tune in more.

5. Valentine’s Day! One of my favorite holidays! I’ll be making heart-shaped cupcakes and mini meatloaves later today, and I’m looking forward to celebrating with the family tonight.

Valentine's DayAre you doing anything special for Valentine’s Day?

  1. I sympathize with your technology issues and I’m glad they got worked out. I had my share of computer issues at work this week. It sure slows things down. Your Valentine’s dinner sounds lovely. We are going out to one of our favorite local restaurants this evening. Sometimes our Valentines is ordering pizza or I’ll make something, but I’m sure going to enjoy a night out this year:)

    Happy Valentine’s Day<3

  2. Happy Valentine’s Day, Barbara! I had to laugh about your phone. My husband is always freaking out when our batteries go below 30% — he would definitely not want to hearing of them depleting completely. I’m really glad it worked for yours though 🙂 That is pretty neat about hearing podcasts by the Elliots’ daughter. I should make note to listen sometime.

  3. Sounds like a great week with the phone and laptop doing well.

How nice to hear the podcasts from Revive our Hearts. I’ll need to look for them. I have Nancy’s book Adorned that was a gift from a friend. I need to start reading it! I em owned it for 2 yrs now!
Enjoy the evening with your family. I love that valentine photo!!

Tonight we are ordering via Grub Hub, our fave quesadillas and having them delivered. Then we’re watching our fave romantic movie: Casablanca as it was the movie we bought and watched when we were newlyweds living with just a small black and white tv. We went out after work on Valentines 1991 ( our first as a married couple) and bought the movie and vcr and happy meals cause it was all we could afford after the vcr purchase. Hahaha now of course we dont eat food from fast food places. We have often stayed home on valentines to watch this classic flick. We just love old movies. And of course it’s the number 1 movie of all time! 💕😀

    Happy Valentine’s Day!!

  4. Happy Valentine’s Day to you! I have had problems with my phone’s battery too. I finally replaced the battery, but it still doesn’t seem to hold a charge. I have an almost 4-year-old iphone 7, so it may be time for a new phone. I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of family and love!

  5. Hmm…my phone battery declines quickly too. Maybe I need to try your trick and see if it makes a difference. We’ve had SO much rain too. It was nice to see some sunshine this weekend, even though it was colder.

  6. So glad your technical problems seem to be resolved. I don’t understand why it should be so hard to get phone batteries replaced.

Hoping those forecasts for a bit of sunshine do come through. We, by contrast are already bracing for a droughty year.

  7. I’m not a big Valentine’s Day fan–probably due to all the years living where it wasn’t celebrated.
Did you get your sunshine? I hope so! I do love my sunny days.
Could you send some rain to Nikkipolani and me? As she said above, we are looking at drought again.
Tech problems solved by sons: score!!

  8. Oh tech problems and me do not get along. But it sure is nice that you have kids who know what they are doing and can help out. Glad your rain has finally stopped! Celebrating Valentine’s with family is always fun

I love hearing from you and will approve your comment ASAP.
