Friday’s Fave Five

FFF snowflakes

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

The first FFF of the new year! And 2019 has been good so far! It helps so much to start off the year counting one’s blessings. Here are five of mine from the last week:

1. The Dolly Parton Stampede. We’ve gone a couple of times before, but that was before Timothy came along. We felt it might be overwhelming to him in years past, but we thought he might enjoy it this year. The pre-show was a little too noisy and too much for him, but he enjoyed the rest of it. A fun family outing!

2. New Year’s Eve. We’re not big partiers, but we enjoyed bowling and lunch at a Mexican food place, then we had nachos for dinner and played games with the family. We turned on the TV just long enough for the countdown and the ball drop. We had sausage, cheese, crackers, and ham salad for snacks as well as gluten free blondies.

3. Family time. My oldest son was here through New Year’s Day, and it was so nice to have the whole family together for a while longer. My husband is off til Monday. I realized just before Jeremy left that we hadn’t gotten a family picture together, so we took a quick family selfie.

Although saying good-bye never gets easier, we were thankful that all of Jeremy’s flights home departed and landed on schedule and he had no problems getting home. That’s the first time that has happened in a long time!

4. New calendars are one of my favorite things. All those nice clean pages!

5. Home depot shopping and planning. Our master bathroom has carpet, and it has been our plan ever since we moved in to take that up and replace it. Jim has brought home samples of flooring, but yesterday was our first time to look at it together. And we made a decision! And, it looks like this will lead to something of a makeover. We looked at paint for the walls and talked about painting the cabinet and changing out the hardware on it, too. I’m so excited! Plus the outing, perusing, and planning was fun.

Happy Friday!

  1. What a nice family photo!! Handsome sons!

I like new calenders too but mainly because i buy ones that feature nature scenes or billy Graham quotes!! This year i bought two of the same because i love the photos so much. All things to do with simplicity and nature, one for my bedroom desk and one for the kitchen bulletin board. And we received a free one from the Nature Conservancy as i give money to them throughout the year. It’s hanging in my husband’s basement office area. I LOVE new calenders!!!
I hope you post pics of your bathroom makeover. Sounds good!!

    Happy New Year!

  2. In this day and age, getting home with no problems is a rarity. Glad it went well.
I do not even want to hear about flooring and painting!! 🙂 OK, it’s fine if it’s for you, but I have had ENOUGH!! 🙂
Happy New Year to you, Barbara.

  3. Great family photo! I love those that are spontaneous and natural. I just looked at the website for the Stampede — how fun!! I wish we had something like that here, my grands would love it. I’m with you on new calendars being a favorite. Happy New Year, Barbara!

  4. It has been several years since we have all been together as a family. I wish we could make it happen sometime. The kids are just spread so far and far from us. Your family photo is a wonderful memory!
The bathroom makeover sounds like it will be a fun project (and hopefully not too long).
Pandemic is a board game where the players cooperate together and play against the cards they draw to keep epidemics from spreading and killing everyone. It involves a lot of discussion and planning and cooperative decision making.

  5. How nice your family was together for the holidays. I really wanted to get a nice family pic this year but in all the chaos it just got forgotten. The only pic we have of all of us was the one from the church and the girl who took it was back up way too far and we were all lined up like ducks in a row. . Oh well, at least there is one to chuckle over in years to come. LOL. I love Mexican food and will have it anytime! How nice that you are going to get a bathroom makeover.

  6. That’s nice to have the whole family around ! In Belgium Christmas and New Year is a real torture because you have to eat for hours and all very expensive and special things. Lots of people go into a restaurant. We have always celebrated the German way, with a cold buffet, games and fun with friends together. And Christmas for the family ! with a nice Christmas dinner of course.

  7. Your family photo is AWESOME. But I especially like son’s cat T-shirt!
#5 — Good thing you’re already preparing yourself for a make-over. These things never end with just one thing getting replaced!

  8. We have those crackers at work and they are delicious…the gluten free ones. The Club crackers are good too but I don’t eat them. Your family selfie is fantastic, You all look so happy.

  9. I LOVE the photo of your whole family! As my girls are growing up, I totally understand how rare and precious those times will be. So sweet 🙂
