Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

I’m late today! Had a project to finish up. Here are some of the highlights of the last week or so:

1. Finally using a gift card. Someone gave us a gift card to a restaurant so long ago that I can’t even remember when. The restaurant was not nearby, and of course arranging care for Jim’s mom outside the usual time gets expensive, so we just never went. But we pass by this restaurant on the way to the church we’ve been visiting, and I commented a while back that we ought to stop there one Sunday after church. It finally worked out to do that this last weekend. The food was really good, and I enjoyed the time out – and of course someone else doing the cooking and cleaning up.

2. Air conditioning. I’ve seen this floating around Facebook.

AC Inventor thanks

3. Finishing books. I love reading, but I like completing a book as well. I had been plugging away at some and finished three within two days of each other this week.

4. Scrapbooking paper. This is an odd one, I know. I have not done much scrapbooking, though I need to. But I use the paper to make cards, and there are just so many beautiful options. I wish I could find fabric in some of the paper designs.

5. A community Facebook page. Someone just told me this week about a Facebook page for our little area. It’s nice for things like finding out where the power is out, where traffic snarls are, lost or found pets, etc.

Bonus: not losing power during the several thunderstorms we had this week. The lights flickered a bit, but thankfully never went out.

Happy Friday!

  1. Yay for gift cards to restaurants…and that everything worked out for you to be able to enjoy that time out with your hubby after church!

We’ve been having storms here, too, but, like you, we’ve not lost power either.

  2. I love GC’s! I also love trying new restaurants

I’ve often said I love whoever invented a/c!

    I love books!

I’ve thought about scrapbooking over the years but I’m not crafty at all so I never did.

The only FB pages I’ve seen for my area are for buying/selling items.

Our electric goes off all the time, doesn’t even have to be storming. We have a hurricane season and have had no electric for up to 3 weeks several times. I don’t like it.

  3. Good that you got to use your gift card before it expired. We did a similar thing this week but an afternoon tea. Air conditioning is not as common here in the UK but this week it would have been good – it’s been really hot. Of course most new builds have it included.

  4. So great to connect again, Barbara! We enjoyed using a gift card this week, too. And I’m finishing books right and left, enjoying every moment! Have a great week ahead.

  5. Yay for gift cards and not having to cook Sunday dinner!

I love reading and have two going usually besides my devotional and Bible!
I plan on doing a LOT of reading and staying away from technology while on our vacation next week. I AM bringing my cell phone in case our oldest daughter needs to get. In touch with us and my iPad to play some word puzzles i do but other than that, it will be books and beach time.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. I agree, I love scrapbook paper and often wish the designs came in fabrics or other notions to use around the house. Raising my glass to William Carrier! It was 103 here yesterday.

    Enjoy your weekend, Barbara!

  7. This man earns a medal, like the one who invented the dishwasher !! We have a Facebook page which is called “Living in Waterloo” and it works fine. If you need somebody for your yard or for children, you just as and there is always somebody who helps. Once a month we meet life, not all together of course, but always other members and it is really nice ! I am not a Facebook fan, but I like my group !

  8. Yes, thank you to Mr. Carrier for the ac! We don’t run ours unless we absolutely have to but it is so nice to have it at those times! Yay for finally being able to go out and use that gift card for the restaurant! I love to read and yes finishing books you’ve had on the go for awhile is fun too.

I love hearing from you and will approve your comment ASAP.
