Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

This time next week, it will be June! But for now, let’s enjoy what’s left of May. Here are some favorite parts of the last week:

1. Patio additions. Jim had bought this bench to provide a place to sit at the edge of the front yard when we watch Timothy in his riding toys on the cul-de-sac. But we pulled it back to the patio for our first grilled meal, and we decided we like it there. Then, I used my Amazon points to get a water table for Timothy, and he has enjoyed using it several times already.

2. Watching a movie with Jim. Last weekend we found ourselves alone for the evening with nothing on TV to watch. Someone had mentioned the movie “Wonder” to me, and the previews looked good, so we watched it together. So good. Even though it’s primarily about a boy with a disfigured face, the theme can be summed up in one of the precepts that his teacher conveys to the class: “Be kind, for everyone is fighting a tough battle.”

3. A satisfactory ending to a dispute. An item I had bought online had a problem, and after several emails the dispute was finally settled to my satisfaction. I usually ask my husband to handle these kinds of things, but I was pleased that I saw it through and that it worked out well.

4. Mending done. I tend to put off mending as it’s often a headache. But one item needing attention was my husband’s most often worn sports coat. So I worked on it and a pair of pants with the cuff coming undone. They both came together about as easily as they possibly could have, much to my relief.

5. Checking off the to-do list. I had a number of minor tasks around the house that I had been putting off. When I finally got to them one day this week, it only took around an hour to take care of them all.

Here in the US we have a 3-day weekend with Memorial Day on Monday. It’s usually a time of get-togethers and cookouts, the kick-off to summer. But we don’t want to forget those who helped to make such days possible.

  1. I really like that bench. The dayhome kids love the water table and it’s up almost daily in the summer time. I’m sure Timothy is going to get very good use of fun out of that purchase. And yipee for getting it with points! That’s always a bonus. We really enjoyed the movie “Wonder”. I’ve been thinking of reading the book too. Glad your online dispute was settled. I’ll bet it was satisfying settling that on your own. I am not a fan of mending and it tends to languish in the black hole of the bottom shelf of the linen cupboard out of sight. Have a lovely long weekend.

  2. Oh i LOVE that bench! Looks very nice. My butt and back would need a cushion or pillow though, haha!

Water tables for, preschoolers are so fun!! We have one in my classroom and one on the playground. You can teach all kinds of things with him! Full/empty, float/sink, fill and dump, light/heavy. Have fun!!

Love when things get taken care of quickly and when it’s something online it’s even more of a blessing!

Enjoy the long weekend….love the quote you posted.

  3. What a beautiful bench! Your porch will look like a park now!

Kudos to you for following through with a difficult situation until it was resolved. That is never easy to do.

Yay for checking off things on the to-do list. That’s a very nice feeling.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    Blessings,

  4. Isn’t it nice to have a piece of furniture situated in the perfect spot? Sounds you are all prepared to enjoy summer. Glad you could have a lovely movie night.
Thank you for your prayers and for that Psalm.

  5. It sounds like you had a very productive week. I love that bench. It’s great to have a comfortable place to sit while you’re outdoors. A water table is always fun for the littles!

  6. oh, Barbara, don’t you just love the feel of checking off yet another item on those endless to-do lists, finishing up a project, emptying an inbox?

    sheer bliss!

enjoy your patio this weekend. lovely, lovely.

  7. Mending is a chore I always put off, too. And then when I get into it, I actually enjoy it. Especially the end result.

The water table is a great idea! My grandkids tend to not play in the little pool we got them, rather just scoop the water out for playing on the picnic table with their toys. A water table would be much easier to handle, for sure.

Lovely Memorial Day prayer. I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend with your family, Barbara.

  8. I always put off mending too but did some recently. I love crossing things off my to do list. Nice bench. I hope you get to enjoy sitting on it over the long weekend.

  9. i’m a big to do list maker and love to mark things off the list. Isn’t that a great feeling?
The bench is beautiful– maybe you should have two: one for the back and one for the front 🙂

  10. Your bench is lovely, and I’m right there with you on feeling SO good when I accomplish a task – – no matter how small — that I’ve procrastinated on. I did it today, with cording I needed to make to finish a cross stitch ornament. The supplies have sat for weeks. Finally today I told myself I would do it. It feels so good to have it done now!

I love hearing from you and will approve your comment ASAP.
