What’s On Your Nightstand: March 2018

Nightstand82The folks at 5 Minutes For Books host What’s On Your Nightstand the last Tuesday of each month in which we can share about the books we have been reading and/or plan to read.

March has certainly been a mixed month weather-wise and event-wise. But it’s nice to make time for reading here and there.

Since last time I have completed:

Trust: A Godly Woman’s Adornment by Lydia Brownback, reviewed here. Excellent.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, reviewed here. This may be my biggest surprise book of the year! It’s quite good, and different from the movies.

Little Blog on the Prairie by Cathleen Davitt Bell, about a modern family with problems going to a “Camp Frontier.” Reviewed here.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, reviewed here. Excellent.

I’m currently reading:

The Story of My Life by Helen Keller

Ben-Hur by Lew Wallace

Sins of the Past by Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey, and Lynette Eason

Reading People: How Seeing the World through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything by Anne Bogel

Up Next:

The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo

He Fell in Love With His Wife by Edward Payson Roe

Going Like Sixty by Richard Armour

Another Way Home by Deborah Raney

How about you? Read any good books lately?

  1. Many of these sound intriguing! Like you, I enjoyed Frankenstein, and found it pretty different from what I expected from bits in pop culture. After reading it, my daughter and I watched an old Frankenstein movie — not much like the book at all! I’ll be interested to hear about Helen Keller’s book. I should read Where the Red Fern Grows. It sounds sad!

  2. I currently have Trust: A Godly Woman’s Adornment on my stand to read! I ordered it after reading your review. 🙂 I would love to get more of her books.

  3. Frankenstein really surprised me too! It was so different than the movies and the stereotypes in my mind. I enjoyed it as well as Ben Hur. It’s been a few years since I read Ben Hur, but I remember really being mesmerized by it.

  4. I LOVE reading and always have one or two going. Currently I am finishing up a non fiction book called A Year in the Wilderness, a fiction one called Little Night, I’m slowly making my way through Earth Psalms (because i only read one chapter a week and then journal about it), and I’m beginning the book study Adorned about being a Titus 2 woman. OH…and my small group study called Spiritual Intimacy with God. (a women of faith study!). I love reading. OH…and the minor prophet Hosea.

  5. I listened to Helen Keller’s book (library audiobook) several years ago and was amazed at all she’d accomplished.

I just finished a book about a bomb maker and the team of bomb technicians who uncovered his plot. I know, entirely NOT your genre. But I was about half way through when the Austin bombings occurred. Certainly made me think about things differently!

I love hearing from you and will approve your comment ASAP.
