Linda at 2nd cup of coffee created and hosts the Random Dozen meme every Wednesday. You can answer the questions on your blog and link up to Linda’s plus find more participants there.
1. Is there a word which you initially mispronounced? Were the circumstances in which you made the faux pas embarrassing?
As a child reading Little Women, I thought “picturesque” was pronounced something like “picture-skew.” Thankfully I don’t think I ever said it out loud. I think I heard the correct pronunciation some years later and then looked it up to see how it was spelled, and lo and behold, it was this word.
2. How do you feel about the use of texting shortcuts and trends? (ex: “I’ve got ur notes. Get them 2 u 2morow.”)
I think they are annoying and make communication look juvenile outside of texting. I am not the fastest texter in the world, so just occasionally I have put 2 for “to” or U for “you” when I’ve been in a hurry, but I don’t really even like to do it then.
3. Tell me about your high school senior picture. Please feel free to post.
I have mentioned it before, but we had to go to a photo studio to have them made rather than a photographer coming to school, and I felt a little stiff and wish I had gone with my mom or a friend. I think that would have made me much more relaxed and made for a more natural smile..
5. Share a high school or college homecoming memory.
We didn’t have homecoming at either.
6. Linda at Mocha with Linda wants to know: “Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets?”
I don’t prefer one over the other. They both can be beautiful.
7. Lea at Cici’s Corner asks, “What is something you have not done that you desire to do?”
Write a book.
8. Carol at Wanderings of an Elusive Mind ponders, “If you could come back [in another life] as an animal, which would it be?”
I don’t believe in reincarnation and am not really fond of animals, but just for imagination’s sake…it would have to be in a place not too hot or cold, not in a jungle or desert. A house cat, maybe. I’m not a big cat lover, but they kind of wander around and do their own thing and people don’t expect much out of them.
9. Joyce from The Other Side of the Pond is curious: “Where were you 10 years ago?” Please feel free to elaborate more than just your physical location.
Let’s see…My husband and I were 43, my kids were 16, 13, and 7 (sniff, sniff), and we lived in western SC. We survived Y2K.
But otherwise I don’t remember anything in particular about that year.
10. When you are proven to be correct in any contentious discussion, do you gloat?
I try not to, and I don’t think I do outwardly unless it is in a teasing way, but sometimes inwardly it is a temptation. (Can we please have no more of these secret sin questions?!)
11. What is your favorite food which includes the ingredient “caramel?”
Turtle candy or Snickers bars, but I don’t eat them any more because I have a hard time chewing nuts. I used to love caramel but can only stand it occasionally now — it just seems too sweet to me.
12. From my 17 year-old daughter to you: “If you could be part of any fictional family, which family would you choose and why?”
That’s a hard one because I like my own family and time period. As much fun as it might sound to be part of the March family in Little Women or the Ingalls family in Little House on the Prairie, I like my air conditioning modern conveniences! But thinking just of families, I think it would be the Marches. I love the variety of imaginative ways they entertained themselves, especially their family newspaper and plays.
Happy Wednesday!

Hehehe… Barbara… we are sO much alike in some ways! I’m proud of you for entertaining question #8. I didn’t! And I didn’t SAY it, but I thought “why is she always asking us to divulge our sins?” when I got to #10!!! And I can still eat NUTS — even without teeth! But caramel is a whole ‘nuther story! It gives me fits… I eat it anyway – but nowhere NEAR as often as I used to!
Hi, when I saw your senior photo I immediately thought “seventies”. We all looked pretty much the same back then–long straight hair, parted down the middle, or close to it–no bangs. I was class of ’72.
I enjoyed reading your answers!
Funny how most of us has answered a cat. We must all be ready just to relax with no worries.
I like your high school photo — you look so fresh and yet mature. And I didn’t know you didn’t like animals.
Your senior pics are lovely and you look sweet and shy — which appears perfectly natural to me.
My least favorite meme questions are the ones that ask me to tell about my wishes to be someone or something else. I have just finally grown content with being me!
Barbara! I promise you that I just now posted my Random Dozen and then began the rounds of reading everyone’s Random Dozen answers and I cannot believe how many of ours are so similar! Are we related?
Unbelievable!!!
I just love your senior pictures! I wish mine were that good. But then, don’t we always?
I love this post! You look lovely in your high school senior pictures. Stiff smile? I don’t think so. I was at this book talk by an author and she said, don’t die with a book inside you, or something to that effect. You need to write that book, Barbara!
You’re the second person I’ve seen that chose the Marches. I thought about them! LOL
You were such a pretty high school graduate. You still look like you, too!
They are all great questions! I am with you on texting abbreviations. I always text in complete sentences/spellings with correct grammar. Some think I am weird….
Re: my teacup quilt. Thanks so much for the kind words. I think you are so ready for a grandbaby. I shall save some of the leftover fabrics for you in case you would like them in the future…
Or I can just mail them to you if you are interested…
Well, I love your pictures!! You were so pretty!! I found some old ones of me on a college website thingy on facebook and I hardly recognized myself!! It is amazing how we change as we age!!
