Linda at 2nd cup of coffee created and hosts the Random Dozen meme every Wednesday. You can answer the questions on your blog and link up to Linda’s plus find more participants there.
1. Please share one memory of your high school graduation. Pics would be great!
I had to give a speech that I think went overlong and bored people to tears (judging by the looks on faces). Public speaking is not my best thing. This is a photo of my dad and I right after graduation. I think a whole group of the graduates and friends went out somewhere to eat later on.

2. What is one “emergency use” item you keep in your vehicle at all times?
Probably my cell phone — at least, it is in the car when I am there. I don’t keep it in the car all the time of course. And a bottle of hand sanitizer for when I get something to eat while out.
3. In your region, do you celebrate graduation open houses? Addendum: (If so,) how many open houses/bridal showers/weddings are on your upcoming events calendar?
Our high school hosts a brief reception right after graduation in the school cafeteria. For years the individual graduates’ parents hosted receptions at their homes the day afterward, but years ago — when Jeremy was a senior, in fact — several of us went together hosting a reception for our kids. It helped each of us not to have so much to prepare and helped guests not to have so many places to go. I think a lot of other people are doing that now, too.
There is a wedding coming up for which we’ve already had a shower, and I think that’s about it, as far as I can recall at the moment.
4. Tell me one truth you believe about motherhood.
It is one of the hardest and most rewarding jobs there is, and you can do it with Christ’s strength.
5. What was the last thing you broke?
A toenail.
6. On average, how many pieces of junk mail do you receive daily?
I have no idea and don’t want to waste time thinking about it. I just toss it immediately.
7. Do you like to shop by catalog?
I like to look through catalogs, but I order from them online.
8. Is lawn maintenance at your house a “his job,” a “her job” or “his/her job” or “that’s why we have teenagers” job?
My husband and boys take care of it. I’ll cut the rose bushes back every now and then, but that’s about it.
9. Which room would you like to redecorate in your home?
We’ve done most of them in the twelve years we’ve lived here. The only ones left are the downstairs bathroom, which is in a style (Southwestern) and colors (rust, gray, and tan) I really don’t like, and our bedroom, which is way too pink even for me. I’d also like to do something to lighten up the “sunroom,” which has wood paneling, but it is a real wood paneling, so I don’t think it would look right to paint over it as we did in the family room.
10. Do you read a newspaper regularly, or do you read most of your news on line?
We get the Sunday paper partly for the coupons and sales fliers, partly because my husband and mother-in-law like to read it in the afternoon, but otherwise we don’t take it. My preferred way of getting the news is to catch the radio news, because it is so concise. Then if there is anything interesting, I can look it up online.
11. Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
Yes.
12. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Well, I think both are important, though I wouldn’t say I am worried about either, but if you’re not doing the right things it doesn’t matter much whether you’re doing them right.

Good day to you, Barbara… another fun meme post. I am with you on #2.
Great list! Nice to meet you.
ROFL! I can NOT believe we both said the same thing for #5! That is too funny!
I did think of my cell phone for #2 – but that is something I keep with ME, not so much “in the car” – so I didn’t use it.
#7 – that’s what I do too. I apparently didn’t make that clear.
I’ve read yours and Melli’s, and you both broke a toenail! Y’all are making mine hurt!
So were you valedictorian and that’s why you gave a speech?
I like what you said for #12.
I liked your response to #12. Doing the right thing regardless if it’s done right. Or preceived to be done right. God honors our hearts and is so gracious to help us thru our mistakes when we don’t quite get it ‘done right’ the first time.
#12 — excellent point.
You know, you could come and help me with my living room. We just bought two chocolate covered couches. Now what? The walls are tan and bare and expansive.
For me, I broke my book ban today… I love that photo of you and your dad.
