Jientje at Heaven Is In Belgium hosts A Thousand Words In Idioms wherein she asks participants to illustrate an idiom with a photo, going through the alphabet two at a time. Today we looking for idioms beginning with W and X.
Warm Fuzzies

“Warm fuzzies” (or, alternately, “warm and fuzzy” or “warm and fuzzy feelings”) are the cozy, happy feelings like you might experience snuggled in a comfy blanket or holding your little one all fresh-smelling after a bath in a fuzzy towel (although, if you don’t get a diaper on him quickly, that warm feeling may be something else entirely). Chocolate evokes that same feeling without the fuzz as does a sweet, romantic movie. Puppy dogs (though they are fuzzy, too), puffy clouds, a warm hug.
Everyone all together now: “Aaaawwwww!”
The photo is of my fleece jacket, which does make me feel warm and fuzzy — in the winter — now it just looks hot.
X Marks the Spot

“X marks the spot” is usually associated with pirate treasure maps, the X, of course, being where the treasure is hidden. Often when you’re signing documents, the person handling the paper work will put an “X” beside the places you’re supposed to sign. I couldn’t find a history of the phrase other than it’s being used on pirate maps, but I wonder if it originated with illiterate people using an “X” to sign their names. Then again, I have seen that done in movies but have no idea whether it was really historically done.
You can head over to Jientje’s to see more illustrated idioms.

X marks the spot! A classic, there was not much choice was there? You managed to depict both of them really well, and your description of warm fuzzies made me smile.
I’ve heard that “x marks the spot” originated from those who could not write but could make a “x” to mark the spot where they agreed to whatever the contract (that they could not read!) said.
I am LAUGHING at your warm fuzzies… well the undiapered part! You are too funny! I don’t know if X’s were actually used for signatures, but I do know the illiterate had “a mark” that they put on the paper – and it counted just as well as a full fledged signature.
A wonderful post. I also did the X marks the spot, hey there wasn’t a lot of choice here. Haha. Our photos are vastly different though.

Great idioms. Your warm and fuzzy before getting a diaper on was hysterical. The X was hard this week
Laughing at your “wet” warm fuzzy! I have a wonderful blanket I would have photoed for warm fuzzy. As you can imagine, it has never been used in Hawaii.
You were rather limited on X, but I think you chose a great map top show!
Everyone got different ones again. Very well played.
I have my own version of a warm fuzzy, so I know just what it means!
Congratulations for the X !! Not easy to find something.
I’m marveling every week at how you come up with these!
Love what you posted here!
