Theme: Glass | Become a Photo Hunter
This is a stained glass window in a little chapel in the woods at the Ida Cason Memorial Chapel at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. My husband was given a gift pass to Callaway several years ago as a reward for service at his job, and we took the whole family for a visit. You just come upon this little chapel while walking along a trail, and many times during the day someone is there playing hymns on an organ. I have to admit the organ is not my favorite instrument, but if I am going to listen to one I like the old-fashioned pipe organs, and in this setting many people just stop to sit and listen for a while. It makes for a lovely, peaceful experience.

This is an unusual depiction for stained glass in a chapel. We have been to Callaway many times but it has been years since the last visit.
Thanks for sharing. I’m loving all of the stained glass I’m seeing.

The window seems to be nature: trees, colors, leaves (?). The rock walls that are so beautiful. Can anybody play or do they hire somebody to play the organ? It is nice to have that on a hike, something I have never encountered before.

Beautiful. I really love stained glass. It’s really interesting to see how many different interpretations of glass there were today. I didn’t think of half of them. Fun!

I have the honor of being a Chapel Organist at the Chapel at Callaway Gardens! There are 3 organists on staff and 2 assistants. Concerts are played on Saturday and Sundays 2-4 PM. June , July and the first week of August, concerts are M, W, Fri, Sat and Sun 2-4.
The Chapel is a very special place. The stained glass windows depict the trees and flowers in the surrounding woods.
There are also 4 windows that depict the 4 seasons.
The pipe organ is built in a tower, which opens into the woods. The organ concerts can be heard as you walk in the woods.
